Notable Drinks I Have Had

A place for celebrating bars and bartenders I love.

Field Trip – Leyenda

This drink changed me. I discovered it long before I was a bartender. For my 25th birthday, my best friend and I took a trip to New York. We stayed on Smith and Schermerhorn in Brooklyn. Not only did we find Luanne’s Wild Ginger a mere 200ft from our hotel, we also found Leyenda just a few blocks down Smith street. We had the best meal there. We both had this same cocktail, and we have talked about it so many times since. I still have a screenshot of their menu in my phone, because we wanted to recreate the drink when we came home. It hasn’t happended yet, because to my knowledge you cannot buy Myris nutmeg liqueur outside of the state of New York. One day I will reverse engineer it. Leyenda closed its doors after 10 years on March 29, 2025. I am very sad we will never be able to go back.

Lucky Strike – Bar, Please!

I saw Turnover recently. Got downtown a little early and decided to go to Bar, Please for a little drink while I waited for the show to start. I had seen the post about this drink on Instagram a few days prior and was intrigued. The butter was what most caught my eye. I asked about it and they said they use a butter extract in liquid form in a bitters dasher, just a little to add some texture. Lovely! One of the best coffee cocktails I have had. A riff on the Carajillo.

No. 9 with Plum Sauce – Thick as Thieves

Just all-around an incredible drink. Negroni-spec and fat washed, less bitter than your standard Negroni, and such depth of flavor. Loved the little schmear of plum sauce on top of the rock to enjoy as I sipped. Masterful.
